What do you do if your basement floods?

First off, hats off to those of you that have a basement. They don’t build them like they used to these days. A lot of us have endless memories of going to our grandparent’s house and being petrified to go down to the basement to pick up that 1875 bottle of Spanish red wine your parents asked you to get. But it also was a great space to explore, store furniture and possessions. However, the downside to having a basement is it can be vulnerable to flooding due to heavy rainfall and blocked drains.

In an incident in Manchester in 2012, three houses had become a victim of basement flooding due to blocked drains caused by heavy rainfall. The aftermath wasn’t pretty and cost thousands of pounds worth of damage for the unfortunate residents. If you have a basement, always check your pipes and drainage system.

So, what do you do if your basement has started flooding? First off, and if safe to do so, turn off your electricity. If you don’t know how to do this, please call an electrician as an emergency. Always put your safety first. Then your second call needs to be to us so we can dispatch one of our expert engineers to your property. Once we arrive, we will put your mind to rest immediately and find the source of the problem. Once this is resolved, a full clean and dry-out of your basement will be required.

You can email us on service@happydrains.co.uk or call us on 0800 849 8099 if you need assistance with basement flooding or any other issues. We’re here 24 hours, 7 days a week.
