How to Remove Rats from Drains for Good

Unfortunately, rat infestations in UK drains are a common problem. They can collapse their bodies down to the size of their skull, allowing them to access drains via small gaps and tight spaces. With an entry point into a warm and cosy home, rats will find access to most areas in a house. If a rat has made its way to your home through a drain, it needs to be dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Luckily, there are options that can eliminate a rat infestation from occurring, of which we have outlined below.

Ensure Drains are Sealed

If there are no openings in the drains and sewer, rats will not be able to enter the home. Whilst this may not prevent an infestation from occurring in the drain itself, it will work as protection for your home.

Drain Covers and Gratings

Placing a removable plastic cover or metal grating within your drain will ensure waste can flow freely whilst blocking out any rodents, or other animals, from entering the pipes.

Rat Blocker Stopper Anti-Vermin Valve

Non-Return Valve

Happy Drains offer an anti-rat and vermin non-return valve to ward off and stop rodents from entering our homes through sewer systems. This non-return valve also prevents noxious fumes from entering properties and backflow of waste.

Our valves are easy to install at home, but we can also do it for you if you don’t wish to install it yourself. This valve is suitable for inspection chambers that are less than 1.5 metres and must be clean, clear and easily accessible.

If you think your drains may have a rat infestation but you’d like to know for sure, we can conduct a CCTV drain survey to get a proper look at your drains. We’ll be able to identify any issues and give you advice on how to eradicate them.
