We’re going to say it, Autumn will come around quicker than you think.
It seems to be the common theme; where has this year gone? Ok, granted we have a couple of months to go, but now is a great time to get your drainage system ‘Autumn-ready’. We’ve been blessed with some glorious sunny weather in April, May and a tiny part of June, but we’ve also seen a high amount of rainfall and choppy winds. This has seen gardens, trees and green areas flourish. With that in mind, comes the Autumn fall. You have to admire the eye catching colours of red, orange and gold but with this comes an increase of leaves falling to the ground, and here is where the issues begin…
Check, check and check your drains. Leading up to the start of Autumn, pop the kettle on, make a brew and have a stroll around your property. You’re on a mission to find any fallen leaves. Pull-on the gardening gloves and begin removing any visible leaves that are blocking any accessible drains and gutters. That’s always a good start, but if you have started to see a sudden build-up within your garden or yard area, rake or sweep them up and remove daily.
If you have trees in line with your property, we recommend you need one of our expert professional engineers to do an extensive drain inspection. We’ve been attending properties for many years now, and you wouldn’t believe the damage a collection of fallen leaves can do to a drainage system. The majority of the time, our engineer should be able to remove the debris with no issues, but on the odd occasion, a CCTV drain survey may be required to ensure no long-lasting damage has occurred that isn’t visible to the naked eye.
We also highly recommend that you invest in a drain guard, it has the potential to have such a major impact preventing a build-up of leaves and debris within your drainage system.
